    WARNING! MS updates causes coasters

microsoft release a few updates the other day and I downloaded all of them. I tried to burn with nero today and it stopped saying that it was an illegal disk. I tried to burn another dvd with the same results. I did a system restore to two days ago before I installed the updates and now I can burn fine. I wasted two freakin dvd's because of this patch.

can anyone confirm which one of the updates it was?

Loaded the patches tonite too, then saw your note.

Burned a disk-just to check, and it came out ok.

    For me it's ok....so far

hmm wonder if it's something else. I didn't install anything else or update any other software. I'm using nero 6.3.1.6 and shrink 3.1.7.6.

I will try backing up a a few more disc's today (thurs).

Your idea of it being the MS updates sounds logical.

I am using older version's of Shrink (3.0 beta 5),and Nero (Express 6).

How do you restore your system to two or three days ago???

a registry clash would cause nero to stop burning and it say that it is an illegal disk?

Thanks for the restore tip-very cool.

Will report back on today's burning-not using the restore unless I have conflict's too

sweet thanks for being brave and testing it out. I would reinstall the patches and try again, but I don't have many dvd's left.

yeah that restore has saved my butt more than once

after I did the system restore and went back into ms update this are the updates that it uninstalled:

cumulative security update for outlook express 6 service pack 1
critical update for IE 6 service pack 1
                    security update for xp (KB837001)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB828741).
Security Update for Windows XP (KB835732)

looking at these I can't imagine that they would cause nero to stop the disks from burning unless ms attached something to one of the updates.

Pretty sure they (ms) wouldn't acknowlege it anyway, probabley just sneak it in there

I got my security patches yesterday, and my DVD Shrink & Nero 6 combo is working fine.

Well I backed up 3 DVD's today, and no problem's so far (Citizen Kane/Pit and the Pendulum/Morvern Callar) TMI??

Still have the MS patches I downloaded a couple of days ago-so for my system-looks like i'm in the clear.

Sorry you got zapped, but at least you got rid of your problem by restoring-wonder what it was.

well I looked into it some more and realized that something went wrong with roxio and I had to reinstall it. when I did the system restore it was just before I reinstalled roxio. I now reinstalled it, but haven't burned a disk yet. I'll try in the morning if I can. if it works then I'll reinstall the patches and give it a shot. thanks again for help and testing.

You know about the conflict's with having both Nero and Roxio on the same computer??

There have been some program's that will cause Nero to fail, and Roxio appears to be one.

It happened to me,and after deleting Roxio-Nero worked fine.
Not sure which version of Roxio caused the conflict-as others say they don't have a problem, and they coexist.
For me I just got rid of the Roxio program, and that did the trick.

Looks like maybe MS is in the clear on this one-sorry Bill.
