    New to this...need someone's advise

I am not a very technical person with the lingo and such. I can usually do something if I have directions or walked through it. What I am wanting to do is take recorded movies and/or TV shows recorded on TiVO and transfer them to my computer where I can burn them onto a DVD. Any suggestions, comments, or advise? Will provide email if someone can help me through this. Thanks.

What video format are the TiVO files in? (mpeg, AVI)

I really couldn't tell you. It is a RCA TiVO DVR that is used with Direct TV.

Then it may not be possible to convert these movies/TV shows to a recognizable video format as they might have some sort of copy protection implemented. I would refer to existing documentation in regards to the TiVO system to find out.

"I have been told it is AVI format."

AVI can easily be converted to mpeg 2 format, which is DVD compliant. I'm not sure how you would go about extracting the files from the TiVO system though. Does it have USB and /or Firewire connections?

There is a USB port on the TiVo as well as the computer. I was thinking maybe just hooking up a USB cable and see if the computer recognizes it as an external device.

But you would probably need a "Software" interface to recognize and copy the files.

I'm not sure if there is one for the TiVo system. You'd have to check with them.
