    help please (scratched dvd)

I am trying to copy a dvd but it has alot of scratches
and the drive won't read some sectors so i can't get to copy all files.
Is there any way to get around this?

    Thanks.

There are available, rotary polishers, mostly bright green wheels on them I've seen, specifically marketed for this purpose, that should be able to skim the top surface back to a clean top but these are abrasive. Be careful and only use if cleaning alone fails.

There are commercially available cleaning kits around with a usually Iso-Propyl Alchohol solvent and cleaning pads. These are basically for degreasing and fingerprint removal but my point is that they do not remove the manufactured material, just the 'additions'.
The bright green wheelie jobs will skim surface material off.

Alternative to buying the cleaning kit would be to wash in warm soapy water, rinsing well and wiping all the timedry 'radially' from the centre outwards and drying with a lint-free cloth.

read here for some solutions http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t208422.html
p.s. If trying the toothpaste solution be sure to use the gel and not abrasive.
