    No, yes, no.
VCD is a completely different bitrate. Most of the above applies, and if there's more than one clip (at VCD bitrates) you can fit much more onto one dvdr.
If you explained a bit more about what you're trying to do, we can recommend a process.

the problem is i`m not sure how best to describe what i`m doing using the correct terminology, but i`ve done a bit of research and i can probably explain it better now.

if i download various mpegs from the internet i get a mixed bag of files, some use win dvd, some use windows media player and some use real player. my intention is to burn these to vcd.

i have used nero to transcode and burn the win dvd and windows media player files no problem (i noted the comments about not using nero but its fine for what i want)

when i try to do the same with the real player files i get error messages. so my conclusion (please say if this is wrong) is that i need to convert mpeg4 (real player files) to mpeg1 or 2 or straight to vcd.

so tmpeg will do this but there are other free downloads as discussed earlier in this thread?

sorry if i`m being dumb but its a very steep learning curve when you branch in to something new like this!

Real media takes a whole different process to get on VCD.
