A few questions about dual layered DVD burning...

Not that I already have a DL DVD burner (allthough the price is not that high I must say!) , but how does it all work?

I mean the burning of a DL DVD?

Lets say I was to make a back up of my original copy of Gladiator (I played this DVD allot and there are some scratches and the center is nearly splitt in two because of thes not very good working DVD-case)

I would make an ISO file with decryptor.
After that I would burn it to the DL-DVD...

But heres my question: Would the DVD be burned like the original? Would the first layer of the original be on the first layer of the copy, and the second layer of the original be burned to the second layer of the copy?

Or would there be sme option in Nero where you can say that the first 10 chapters on the first layer and the rest of the chapters on the second layer...

Why I want to know is because I dont want the burning software just to burn till the first layer is full and then burn on the second layer leaving a pause in the middle of a scene where you dont want it...

If the copy has the same layerswitch as the original, everything would be fine i guess....

(not that Gladiator has a perfect layer switch BTW, its in the middle of a scene....)

If you did have a DL burner and you created an .ISO with DVD Decrypter, you could simply burn the .ISO with DVD Decrypter - there's no need to use NERO...

Thats not my question.... I know that you can burn a dvd with decryptor!

But to place the question in a more simple way: if I burn a DL-DVD iso, would it burn the layer switch at exact the same place as the original???

It should - unless the software you've used removes the layer break...

Whether that was or wasn't your question, I'm curious to know why you would use NERO to burn an .ISO you create using DVD Decrypter.

I think there might be circumstances where there are two layer changes. The original which is now a false one and a new proper one.

If that does happen, then the software will need to take out the false layer change before burning.

I read somewhere that the same amount of data has to be written on each layer.

This might be rubbish and I won't believe it until I try it myself. It would be nice to just have Decrypter for the whole job.

Just simple, I use NERO expresse fot it:

openup nero expresse
Choose 'disk image or saved project'
firstly choose filetype iso, then choose your iso file
Burn the sucker....

Well, isnt it so that the ifo files on the DVD tells the DVD to skip to the other layer at frame so-and-so?
So when the burner burns the DL-DVD it MUST burn the DL-DVD exactly the same way as the original, else it would not play....

Anyway, it would be good if there was an option where you could input where you want the layerbreak. Some DVD's have it in the middle ofthe scenes, and if you copy you could then place the layervreak right in between chapters or so...

We will see...

Yes, that would be the actual layer change on the source DVD.

However, I wonder if the DVD DL burning program will put it's own layer change at half way through the writing procedure. This will create the same amount of GB/MB on each layer.
