Backing up with Shrink

Hi all. I'm completely new to DVD burning (my Pioneer DVR 107D is a week old). I have sucessfully backed up several movies using Decrypter then Shrink but am stuck with Kill Bill (made 6 coasters already)
Have run the film through Decrypter to hard disc and then through
Shrink to an ISO image, again on hard disk, with no errors reported. When I then burn (with Decrypter) the resulting disc plays OK till 3/4 through, then goes crazy - freezing, skipping and losing sound.
Have had several attempts - with/without Decrypting, full disc backup/re-auther to keep just main movie and subtitles and tried all this on two different types of media (one cheap, one notso).
Playback always fails at the same point in the film, playing on my PC or my home player.
If I use Power DVD 5 to play the Decrypted files (before they are Shrunk) from hard disc, the whole film plays faultlessly.

Hope someone can help as I'm out of ideas.

Sounds like poor quality media...

I re-posted my thread in the Shrink sub-forum where someone else suggested bad media. I get no problems with either of the two types I use, except with Kill Bill. My better media is "Grade A" and uses Ritec 04 dye. Kill Bill playback always fails at EXACTLY the same point, irrespective of which discs I use.
If the most likely cause is media, what brand do you recommend?
I'm using a Pioneer 107D, AMD 3.0, 512MB, Win XP Pro +SP1.
I've only tried -R so far. Should I give +R a go?

u should try use the shring plugin for burn the movie instead of create an ISO image.

Does the ORIGINAL (commercial) DVD play properly, from beginning to end (including "extras") on both your PC and standalone DVD player?

Sorry, I didn't mention that I had gone from original DVD, via Decrypter to HDD, then used Shrink to go straight to DVDR. I tried this before I asked Shrink to make an ISO Image.
Should I run the original copy of the movie again somehow?
My current HDD Decrypted version play fine through Power DVD5, no hiccups, so can the Decrypted file be corupt? This problem is really bugging me!!! If this is old and bugging you all, let me know and I'll give up (I'm English and Portugal just knocked us out of the European Cup - a big deal if you're an England fan). My enthusiasm is flagging!!!! HELP!!! Media or not?

Hi setarip,
My last post was was before I had read your last - Yes the original, comercial, bought and paid for DVD plays fine, right through, anywhere on anything. It is now in the posession of my sister (as of yesterday). My sister lives a long way away (in UK speak) but I could hire a different copy for £3.50. It would be a rental version (any difference?) and I couldn't legally back it up, but it would help in a process of elimination. Should I try this (and if it works, return my original to the shop for exchange?)

You've already stated that the hard drive "ripped" version plays properly, so the ORIGINAL cannot be at fault...

What type of disc do you recommend?
Local shops have a limited (and very expensive) choice.
I can get any of the following quite quickly and cheaply on-line:

Ritec Ridisc 4x -R (G04)
Ritec Ridisc 8x -R (G05)
"Ritec" branded 4x (G04)
Verbatim 4x -R
Verbatim 8x -R
Datasafe Ritek 4x (G04)
Datasafe Ritek 8x (G05)

My drive will write at 8X (but the media is more expensive).
Is it important that I burn at a certain speed?
How important is it to keep the drives firmware updated?

Ritek Ridisc 4x -R (G04)

Or Traxdata or Ridata discs if you see them. These are grade A Riteks just like Ridisc.

I just got 100 of Ridiscs yesterday from Blankdiscshop. They are a bargain at just £7.99 for 25.

I've also ordered 5 individual Verbatim 4x as an experiment.
I'll post my results (if they are worth posting) when I've tried the new media.

Why are you using to DVDDecrypter to rip the movie to the hard drive and then using Shrink to make the ISO and then using Decrypter to burn the ISO? Why don't you just insert the original, use Shrink to encode on the fly and then burn the ISO with Decrypter. That would eliminate one step and may help solve your problem.
