    Rencoding Problems

    Hi,

I had this happen once before and could not figure out what was casing the problem so i just formatted the drive, now it has happended again i am reluctant to format again as this is a complete pain.

    The Problem

Ripping with either DVD Shrink or Clone DVD has come to a grinding halt, where by before i would get around 40k per seconds rip/reencode with DVD Shrink i now get about 1-4k meaning it will take 18 hours to encode a 4.3GB DVD as opposed to the usual 1hr.

Rencoding is just as slow with CloneDVD.

DVD Ripping with DVD Decrypter is fine with no change there it is just the rencoding part.

Now im sure this has gotta be caused by some piece of software i have installed but i dont have a clue what this could be.

I have check to make sure DMA is still enabled and it is so im not a little stumpted.

Anyone else had this problem or know how to rectify it ?

    Thanks in advance

Yes i do have XP and have SP2 but it was runnning fine after i installed SP2 if i remember correctly, been a while since i last used DVD Shrink or CloneDVD, so cant definately confirm this.

You think i should try uninstalling XP2 then give it a whirl again ?

if you are using XP, try a system restore before the installation of SP2

Could try that, but i think it will bugger up some of the other stuff i have installed since grrr, but i dont think it will be a major headache.

Will give it a go this evening and post any results

          Thanks

a quick thought before wiping stuff - Do you have Norton protected stuff in your Recycle bin (right-click)?

Nope dont use any Norton products.

Further info if it helps, the problem only affects transcoders i think that is what you call the likes of DVD Shrink & Clone DVD.

Rencoders such as CCE & TMPEnc still run at the normal speed that is the reason why i believe some piece of software is causing some kind of conflict with transcoding software.

Just to note it is the the same whether i rip straight from the disc or if i rip the disc using DVD Decrypter then load in the DVD files and try to rencode, same result either way.

PC is virus and spyware free, and has recently been defragged.

I really dont want to format my HD again because of this problem so im hoping it is SP2 causing the problem but im not optimistic on this one.

Seems to be an awful number of folk with Shrink slowing down lately. You could quite safely run other versions. This seems to have sorted some folk out.

You should use the newer versions of DVD Shrink since these versions are old and no longer supported. DVDShrink download DVDShrink English version 2.3 [366KB] released June 15, 2003 freeware (all versions 2.3) Dutch | French | German | Greek | Italian | Japanese | Norwegian | Portuguese | Slovak | Spanish | Swedish […]

Managed to fix the problem, still not sure what caused it but here is what i did

Installed DVD Shrink onto my other HD
                          Defragged that drive
                          Checked for Spyware & Viruses
                          Run a registry program

All now seems to be fine and running at normal speed

Thanks to all those that offered advice

Glad to hear it! I read somewhere about NTFS and FAT32 making a difference, was that the case ?

I dont believe so as both my drives are NTFS.

Only thing i guess is that one of the programs installed on my other drive is causing a problem with DVD Shrink.
