    DVD's Skipping during Playback

I have been using DVD shrink 3.2 with Nero 6.3.1.6, after completing the reauthoring and finishing the DVD without any error messages, when the movies are played they skip. I bought a brand new player/recorder and it didn't help. I'm really new to the DVD recording stuff so somebody help me out. I used Memorex 8x and Maxell 8x in my Lite on 8x recorder no help or difference found in the media. My computer is a AMD K7 Athlon 2600 processor, 512meg of PC3200 RAM, 2- 80 gig hard drives, 64meg Nvidia Geforce video card. I use the slave hard drive for all the movies to seperate it from all my other programs. If any one can give me some hints this is driving me bonkers!

do you put labels on your dvd's ? if so, stop doing it and then try playing them.. most people have problems with backup dvd's that have labels on them

No I don't use labels, I just use a permanent marker.

You may be having a problem with your media. Try using another brand. I would suggest using Verbatim.

I was having a problem with my Sony drive using Maxell (made by Ritek). Since I switched to Verbatim I have made only one coaster in over 150 burns.

What brand name is the burner? I have had trouble with the I/O Magic brand. It was a external drive though. I bought a Liteon and i havent had any problems since. Everyone that would reply to my thread would try to tell me it was the media, and dont get me wrong, that does have a lot to do with it, but in my case it wasent. Now, did you try to play the DVD in different players and see if it does the same thing for every player? Another thing, does it skip right away or when it starts getting towards the end of the movie? If it is towards the end, that was the problem i had, and they say that, thats where you will have most of your problems at. Try to compress it a little more, that will help keep it off the edges. Maybe my thread can help you a little.

There doesn't seem to be any set pattern as to how it behaves, sometimes it starts at the beginning, sometimes in the middle sometimes towards the end. I switched from using Maxell to Memorex and still have the same problems. I will try a verbatim disk and see what happens.

I have been using DVD +R disks, should I been using the -R's instead?

Also Jmet I have several different programs installed on my computer, Sonic DVD, DVD Xcopy platinum, Power DVD. I may have a compatibility issue. I'm going to uninstall DVD X Copy Platinum because I use nero all the time now.

It very possible that you indeed may have a compatibility issue. What speed are you burning at ? 8X? If so, try to slow it down, max 4X.

This problem has persisted even at the slower speed, after the 8X media came out I thought it might help, but it didn't. Also as I stated earlier I have burnt all these movies in the +R format, should I be using the -R instead. I also uninstalled several of the programs that I spoke of earlier. The only ones left are Sonic My DVD and Power DVD. I also flashed the drive with the new firmware update yesterday.
