Nero "Key Hardware Error" after 12 Min into burn

First off I'm fairly new to this, but was able to successfully rip
3 dvd's with DVD Shrink 3.2 then burn each with Nero 6.6.0.3
no problems at all just point click Done. Nice. However now
with no changes to machine I'm getting an Key_Hardware_Error
at around the 12 minuite mark this message shows up on the Nero Burning ROM report.
Using store bought Sony DVD-RW Media, even tried using the other brand, Memorex DVD-RW same issue.
I've reduced the record speed to 1X check all else I know of & still same problems.
Not sure if it matters, but the Machine is the top of the line IBM T42 laptop. No other issues or problems at all with my set up.

    any hints?

    Thanks!

Post your log file from Nero - you can find it here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

There is also this FAQ: http://forum.digital-digest.com/show...threadid=45942

If, later on in your log, it refers to "Focus or tracking error", then either your burner's laser may be out of alignment or NERO doesn't recognize the burnable media you are currently using...

Keep in mind this error showed up today after successfully burning three DVD's (two weeks ago) using the same brand name, store bought media. So the media should not be the issue.

        Thanks for the prompt help!

You could try with the latest version of firmware for your IBM: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1780

Based on the following from your log:

            "12:55:13 PM #26 CDR -400 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
            Unspecified target error"

            "Media Specific [16..63]:
            80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
            00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
            00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "

NERO doesn't "recognize" this specific burnable DVD.

If infact that statement is true, how is it that I already burned
three dvd's without any issues, following the exact process using the same brand media? In fact, out of the same box!

I appears something got changed in the software setup somehow. Could it be un related to the DVD media given
              the past success?

Where can I find that the "Unspecified target error" message
is directly referring to the media?

So, if the DVD media is the issue, what is the solution? Buy different brands of DVD media? Seems crazy to me.

Sounds like to me as a process of elimination.

              Thanks for the input.

Did you try the firmware update?

                  Tim,

You probably want to remove your serial number from the log that you've posted - before someone from Planet X takes advantage of it...
