Still cant burn the NOTEBOOK Please help

WHEN I CHECKED NERO DRIVE SPEED TOOLKIT I GOT THE FOLLOWING ERROR

WRITE ERROR (030C00) THATS AFTER CHANING THE WRITE SPEED TO 4X

Initially the dvd shrink pref. enable NERO recording WAS checked durring the problems, then I unchecked it STILL no improvement with it UN checked I couldn't set the write speed to 4x opposed to the 12x or 16x it was on....I did however, have to do the MAJOR update on NERO, NERO suite came with my DVD burner and needed updated, I did all that screwed with some settings I didn't know what I was really doing, EVENTUALLY i CHECKED or ENABLED burn with nero and took the chance of it writing at a higher speed because I couldn't change the setting with it unchecked. so I did and it worked. I didn't get any error or burn faliure so maybe just updating took care of it, I would still like to know how to manually ( with enable nero burning UNCHECKED) reduce my write speed down to 2x or 4x incase of burning issues again, it just auto jumps back up to 12x. I appreciate everyones patience and help with this, YOU all are so wonderful to devote your time to dummies lke me...just getting started!!!
