DVD Playback Problems

Hi everyone, I've been having problems with the playback of my DVD'S. I use EZ Media Creator 7 to burn my dvd's, and use -RW format disks. When I burn a dvd it says the dvd burned successfully, but after I get through about one hour of the disk it starts to freeze up on me, and then the movie jumps ahead, or sometimes it even jumps back to an earlier part of the disk. I've tried several different dvd players to make sure it wasn't the player, but it does it for all of them. I don't have this problem when the disk is one hour or less, only when it's longer then one hour. Has anyone else had this problem, and can anyone help.

I downloaded the Nero CD-DVD Speed and tried it on one of the disks I have problems with. The scan disk shows one unreadable sector and the transfer rate test gets as far as 3.2 and both lines drop down to below 2x - then they flatline and I get an error message: ERROR - "No Additional Sense Information".

Any thoughts?

P.S. I forgot to let you know that I'm using Sony DVD -RW, and Fugifilm DVD -RW media if that helps at all.

I picked up some MXLRG02 Maxell -R disc's, and tried one out. It played fine on the computer, but when I tried it out on a couple of new DVD players, (both are suppose to read -R disc), one said there was no disc in the player, and the other said that the disc was dirty. Any thoughts?

Did your burn on the Maxell test out OK? If so, is it a compatible disk to your player - see columbo's links. When looking for compatibility, always use Media ID code, not brand. Having said that, the MXLRG02s are reputed to be excellent media.

As well, make sure your burner's firmware is up to date - See link in my sig.

The messages you are getting suggest that your player's laser could do with a cleaning. I understand there are several good cheap kits out there.

You have asked by PM what burning software I recommend. I strongly recommend the freeware DVD Decrypter. From DVD Shrink, simply click, Backup --> Select backup target --> ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter. DVD Decrypter integrates a particularly good burning program called mkisofs/ImgTools, which was written by Coujo. I would de-install Roxio and Nero and simply run with DVD Decrypter. I have well over 300 burns and have not made a coaster yet using ImgToolsClassic. All this for $0.00 - can't be beaten, if you ask me.
