Hi,

Can anyone tell me what these errors are a symptom of? I am trying to burn a dvd in DVD Decrypter


E 22:04:44 Failed to read from file

E 22:04:44 Reason: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

I cleaned, it wasn't too bad to begin with...and decrypted in DVD Decrypter. I then opened the ISO in DVD Shrink to shrink it...but I got a similar error...failed to read.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What's your burner? Do you have the latest firmware installed?

I used to get similar problems when trying to backup a backup...is this what you're attempting?

It's my original disc. I aim to back it up. My burner is a LiteOn DVDRW LDW-451S.

I have the latest versions of decrypter and shrink

Without sounding like a luddite, can you help me understand exactly what you mean by "firmware"?

To see if your firmware is current, you can launch DVD Info, (download here)
Or you can use NeroInfoTool that will give you a picture like this


Or you can get through right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Find your drive and right click properties

Luddite, I know the feeling. To the giants here, I'm the luddite,...but hey, you gotta start somewhere. Hope this helps.

Once you've determined what firmware version you're running, go back to the first link I gave you and check to see what's latest for the burner you're using.

A CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) error is DVD Shrink's and/or DVD Decrypter's (It is a I/O Error in DVD Decrypter) way of telling you that it cannot read the disc (DVD). It is caused from the disc being to dirty (fingerprints, smudges, etc.) or being to scratched. First, try cleaning the DVD.

After cleaning it, either try it in DVD Shrink again or try to run it through DVD Decrypter.

Before you return it and after you have cleaned it, try using the latest version of DVD Decrypter. The latest Version is Currently: Version 3.5.4.0 Get it here: http://www.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download

Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO" or the actual "VIDEO_TS" folder.

If DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter still generates this error message, I suggest returning the original for a different copy.

In this case, it's a reference to the programming code contained in your burner, that instructs your burner on how to operate.

"Updated" firmware for a burner typically adds the ability to burn additional brands/speeds/formats of media not included in earlier firmware versions...

I have a feeling that my cyclic redundancy errors are a result of the DVD being copy protected. It doesn't really bother me at this stage, my DVD is still new. But all the same, my policy is to back up pretty much all my DVD's and CD's...I've lost too many to neglect that.

I think that maybe my version of decrypter is old? It is ver 3.5.4.0

I have heard that outdated versions will not back up DVD's that are protected from copy.
