I need help. I have been using dvd shrink with nero to burn dvd's for over a year. I have the latest versions of both. For the last month, every and I mean every dvd I have tried to burn has come up with an error when I try to just simply open the disk and it does it's initial scan I get this error "Data Error"(cyclic redundancy check) I have been doing alot or reading and all I can come up with is the disc must be dirty or scratched. I can buy this theory with a few movies but certainly not ALL the movies I have tried. Furthermore, if I put the dvd that I want to burn in my cd burner, it will read it and the dvd burner will burn it but I get skipping that way. I don't know what to do to correct the problem. Anyone that can offer any suggests I would much appreciate. I have been reading the forum and it seems using dvd43 is one fix that has been offered, I tried to use that in the past, prior to finding dvd shrink and it messed with my computer so bad I have to reinstall windows.

Could this be related to bad media you've recently purchased? What is the media you're using?
You also might try ripping with DVD Decrypter. You can find that here
Then burn with Shrink. If you've been reading, you know about arccos, a new write protection scheme. Shrink can't burn DVDs with arccos protection. -
A CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) error is DVD Shrink's and/or DVD Decrypter's (It is a I/O Error in DVD Decrypter) way of telling you that it cannot read the disc (DVD). It is caused from the disc being to dirty (fingerprints, smudges, etc.) or being to scratched. First, try cleaning the DVD.
After cleaning it, either try it in DVD Shrink again or try to run it through DVD Decrypter.
Before you return it and after you have cleaned it, try using the latest version of DVD Decrypter. The latest Version is Currently: Version 3.5.4.0 Get it here: http://www.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download
Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").
Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO" or the actual "VIDEO_TS" folder.

If DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter still generates this error message, I suggest returning the original for a different copy.Comment

I am using Maxell blank dvd's. I know the blank dvd's are not the problem because I am not even getting to the point that it asks for the blank dvd. Can anyone explain to me how my cd drive will read the disc but my dvd drive will not? And it is happening on all of the movies I am trying to burn and I did buy a dvd cleaning system and it doesn't help unfortunately. And....alot of the movies I am trying to burn are not new releases at all. Thanks so far for the tips. I will try the decrypter I have been suggested to use. Will have to do some reading..don't have the slightest idea how to use it unfortunately.Comment

I tried that as well with a dvd laser lens cleaner from Radio Shack. Does this now mean my burner has bit the dust? I installed decrypter as instructed but it automatically comes up with an error when it tries to read the disc. I tried 3 different dvd's.Comment

Yes, it might have. Can't recognise anything, eh? But the CD ROM can (I guess it has DVD read capability). So, yes, I'd reckon you're in for a new burner. There are some real goodies out there now for a song.

1) Are you now saying that NEITHER your DVD-ROM nor your (I'm sure you didn't mean CD burner) DVD burner can read a commercial, pressed DVD?
2) What is the brand and model number of your DVD burner?Comment

I have a internal cd burner/dvd player and I have an external dvd burner. The cd burner/dvd player will read the disc that I want to burn but the dvd burner will not. And the weird part is, the dvd player will still let me watch movies on it but just comes up with the error when it tries to read the disc to burn. The model I am using is Lite-on DVDRW LDW-851S USB Device. I have unstalled it and reinstalled it, I have looked for any firmware upgrades (with no luck) I am just stuck. This thing is only a year or so old. HmmComment

Since cleaning the DVD burner didn't "cure it", I would surmise that your burner is gone...Comment
