    Dmr-e85h

    Please help a novice!

I'm having difficulty figuring out how to finalize a disk in the Panasonic DMR-E85H. I do believe I have the machine set up properly, and I am able to record from cable to both the hard drive and DVD-R, but until I finalize the disk, I can't play it on another brand of DVD player other than Panasonic. Since my other three DVD players are Sony, this will be a problem.

The instructions say to press the <,> buttons, but nothing happens. Am I supposed to be on the top menu when I do this? Why can't Panasonic just put a button on the remote that says 'finalize'?!?!?

I haven't been able to get through to the phone help line yet, so I'm asking here.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forum, Arby!

You can finalize the disc in DVD Decrypter.

In write mode (press W) -> Tools -> Drive -> Close -> Disc

      Thanks Cynthia!

Unfortunately, I'm even more confused. How do I get to the write mode? I don't see a 'W' anywhere to press.

Sorry to be such a blockhead. Normally I act like my IQ is three digits. <g>

Ignore my last email, Cynthia. I'm almost wondering if my model number is something different from the manual and the name DMR-E85H! (just kidding). The manual is one of the worst I have ever encountered.

I stumbled on how to finalize on this machine. There might be another way, but I couldn't find a 'W', except in the White House. I got it to finalize by selecting

        Functions
        Disc Setting
        and
        Finalize

After selecting finalizing, I had to confirm that I wanted to go ahead two times. I had filled two discs yesterday, and I finalized them this morning. They work on my other brands of DVD players, so I'm good to go!

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it when people recognize a dude in distress. <smile>

p.s. My little hockey players on the team I coach couldn't say my last name, so they used my initials, RB, and it immediately morphed to Arby.

        Have a great week!
