DVD+R +RW to DVD that Stand Along Can recognize

I read somewhere a few weeks ago about a program that will allow you to change the code on blank media from (+RW, +R, -RW, -R) to whatever format your standalone will read. Has anyone else read about this program and can tell me the name and possibly give me a link to this program download?
