I just bought a bunch of -R - a sale on these discs is not necessarily a bad sign. I have so far bought all my Sony blank dvd's at CompUSA every time they had a 19.99 sale.
Now I say this having had great sucess with most Sony discs and having a Sony burner. I regretted trying TDK and memorex and have gone back to Sony exlusively. I originally had 300 burns with only 1 or 2 bad burns.
Now having said this, I got home and the first 50pk I unwrapped has tacky edges. I believe this is from the glue between the layers that has seeped out not being properly cleaned up. It's not excessive and you can't tell from looking at it - not very sticky, just tacky on the edges of the discs.
Dunno if this is a bad sign - will soon find out. . . -

I'm going to assume that you are new to burning DVD's since you didn't inquire about the media code for these disks. If you aren't new then you can ignore my post.
I picked up some of those disks at Circuit City on Sunday. They only had 2 spindles that were Made in Japan (MIJ), all of the others were Made in Tawain (MIT) so I only bought 2 spindles.
The MIJ's are Taiyo Yuden and the MIT's are Sony's own disks I believe.
You can look at the outside label to see where they are manufactured and right now generally the MIJ's have a white foam spacer that you can see from the top of the spindle while the MIT's have a gray foam spacer. This might not always be true but it seems to be right now.
If you are wondering why I only bought the MIJ spindles here is a link that will help explain it all but generally the best media is Made in Japan.
Hope this helps.Comment
