I have been burning DVDs now for about 6 months. Just recently I have been having problems where the DVD will play fine in my computer, but not anywhere else.
Only some movies are like this, and I have tried reburning those dvds over and over again with different methods unsuccessfully. I have searched through the forums and tried various problem solutions for people facing the same dilemma, and none of worked. I will try to include as much info as I can of what ive done so far.
Hardware
I have 2 computers with DVD burners and these movies are not working in either.
First is a p4 3.4, 1gb 400mhz ram with a 4x Sony DVD+/- DW-D56A DVD/CD burner. This computer is a laptop.
Second is a p4 2.8 ghz, 512mb 333mhz ram, LG DVDRAM GSA-4081B dvd burner.
Media
I have only started having problems with my burns when my local store upgraded their blank media from 4x to 8x, no longer carrying the 4x. I do not suspect that this is the problem since the bad burns only happen with specific movies.
Im using Memorex DVD-R because some of my DVD players have had problems in the past with DVD+R.
Standalone DVD Players
Xbox
PS2
Sony DVP-NS725P
Old Toshiba, circa 2000 no idea model number its upstairs![Smilie](https://forum.digital-digest.com/core/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Some Wal-Mart brand TV+DVD in 1 combo
Movies Ive had problems with
The Last Casino
People vs Larry Flynt
Showgirls
What ive tried so far:
BTW One of those movies needs no compression as its below the size of 1DVD. So i dont see a problem being with compression or "shrinking".
DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink:
I have tried backing up the files to my hard drive. I have tried copying the CD directly in DVDShrink using both Decrypter and Nero. I have made an iso from the files and burned it using nero and decrypter. I have tried going directly to iso from the DVD using both programs, then burning.
I downloaded and tried DVD43 to remove any kind of copy protection, and burning again.
I have tried copying the disc with DVDXcopy Xpress as well, unsuccessfully.
I have read posts for 2 days on these forums and doom9 forums doing all these little tricks like burning at a slower speed, following the "golden rules of burning", etc. Ive tried so many different things I dont even know what ive done anymore other than make enough coasters for a small army.
Before I give up totally I wanted to post to see if anyone has any ideas before I go out and try to buy new media to test out, or anything else.
The things I haven't tried so far, upgrading firmware, ripping the movie to divx and burning just that (
), burning at 1x (2x is the lowest ive gone).
Oh one last thing, one dvd in particular, The Last Casino, when I put it into DVD Decrypter to backup the files or into an iso, this message comes up:
W 11:59:36 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 11:59:36 1 area has been marked as 'suspect'.
W 11:59:36 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.
When I start to back it up, this message comes up:
Encryption Detected!
File: VTS_01_0.vob (repeats for following vobs)
LBA: 389
The disc is not supposed to be protected by CSS/CPPM so this is somewhat strange! Would you like to try to decrypt the encrypted data?
I guess this message is the last thing I haven't had a chance to deal with yet.
So thanks in advance, and any ideas?
