converting DVD to AVI

I'm not sure where to post this, so if this isn't the correct spot i'm sorry.

well like it says in the title, i want to convert dvd format to avi. not the whole disc, just parts...

so my question, what are good programs for this job?

Convert the whole thing, then extract what you want.
Just search for DVD to AVI.
