VERY Serious Problem with my NEC ND3500 DVDR Please Help

    I have a NEC ND3500 DVD-R.
It works under Windows98 and Windows Me.
But now that I have installed Xp pro every time that I try burning with Nero it stops on the first second of caching files. Through the task manager Nero appears as a non-responding program. I can not close or stop the process and every time I end up forced to reset. I am kind of desperate and hoping of your help.

P.S. If it is important, the problem occurs when I burn video files but also when I make a data DVD.

Update your Nero to the latest version 6.6.0.16, also check that DMA is ON for your DVD burner, and read the FAQ's for other clues.

If you're still having trouble post the Nero log here.

Hi and welcome to the forum, elecen2003!

Is it on the same computer as you before had Windows 98/Me installed on?

What firmware version do you have installed?

You can find it out by this program:

      You also have this FAQ:

Thanks a lot for your help. Disabling DMA (because it was allready enabled) has solved the problem. However now every second DVD that I burn appears from the NERO this message : "SCSI failed". The burning process keeps on but as you can easily imagine it never comes to an end. It remains 1% antil I cancel it. And daqmage the disk of course. I will seek through the forum for that problem but if you have any specific suggestion it would be welcome.

          DMA shall be enabled.

Try to update your chipset drivers. Do you know how you connected this Nec? On the same cable as your hard disk? The jumpers back on the burner how are they set (Master, Cable Select, Slave)?

If you can post a log file from Nero - it would tell us something about your system. You find it here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory.log

The Nec is connected as master in the secondary IDE channel (with slave a CD-R). I have tried again with DMA enabled but again stuck. I know the importance of DMA but it does not work with it. When you suggest chipset drivers you mean those that I could download from the Nec side, I 've done that allready. Seeing the NecHIstory file I've seen that this SCSI problem appears after the Disc At Once automatic enabling. Sooo I have disabled that too. Now I have a relative stable recorder. But it takes me about 25 min for a DVD burning I am kind of afraid to renew the firmware because they say I may lose the guarandy.
The history file is huge I feel that it is going to make the tread one km long. You see I have made more than 10 tries. After all it is in Greek.

You only need to post the latest burning report in that log file.

Firmware as you can download from the Nec page is not the same as drivers for your motherboard.

If you now can burn sounds as you are burning at a speed of 2.4X.

May you know if there is any connection with the fact that I've not installed sp2?
Thanks for your help so far.

wow, it really is in Greek

Turn DMA mode ON for your HardDrive and Burner, you should find instructions in the FAQs.

Your installed firmware version is very old. Latest is ver 2.1A.

Could be good to update your Nero version also. It's free.

I have finally tried to update the firmware ,even htoygh I was afraid, but the flash operation stopped and said that there was a flash error. (I was logged on in the safe mode and as administrator). So I have left the things as they were. My current situation is :
-the dvd-rw works but writes a dvd in 25 minutes.
-1 out of 2 or 3 dvd is damaged after failing SCSI command
-I still have to hold DMA inactive, otherwise Nec does not work.

By the way I have installed SP2 but not any real result.

Please try again to flash the firmware, some flashing software requires the computer to be in "real DOS" mode, I do not know which firmware you used they usually come with very good instructions, be sure to follow them completely.

Did you try to update Nero?
