Hi and welcome to the forum, Daki!

        CD-ROM: <LITE-ON CD-ROM LTN-489S >Version: 8GS4 - HA 4 TA 1 - 6.6.0.2
It sounds as your burner don't like the brand of discs that you are using. Sometimes a firmware update can solve that problem.

A discussion about your installed firmware. Your burner is a rebadged LiteOn.

Your current installed firmware is version 8GS4. Firmware is the little program that makes your burner understand how it will burn your discs. If the description of your discs are not covered in that media list in the firmware - the burner gets confused and it very often results in a burning error.

Firmware is released with new updates to cover new media/discs.

From the firmware version I think that you have a Gateway computer. Where often other burners like LiteOn are rebadged into another brand. Very often the original burner models firmware can be used in a rebadged one.

In that thread I linked to - there is a discussion about this issue.

I think that you should first try to get to see if there is any new firmware update for your burner at the Gateways homepage for your model of burner. I don't think there is any because the thread I linked to is very recent.

To solve the problem that your current firmware don't cover your brand of discs - a flash (=installation) of a original LiteOn firmware could solve this problem. The main issue is that your certifcate of guarantee will be lost if you do so.

So perhaps the best is to try to find a brand of media that Gateway recomends for that burner.

              hang on a sec.

cynthia. That is her CD-ROM, the DVD burner is
              <LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S>Version: BGS4
Everything else cynthia said is true, I'm still trying to find out what the BGS4 firmware is...

The problem with the firmware version BGS4 is that it can't deal with your brand of discs. So either you need to flash it with LiteOn original firmware and that will make you loose your certificate of guarantee for the burner or get a brand of discs that your burner like.

                            I download this file right: CS0P - patched - crossflashing, multi-colored LED (for 1213S, 1613S, 1633S, etc.) from http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1653S

and on that site u posted it says 1. if you have nvidia ide-drivers installed on your system, uninstall them.

How do I check for this? I went to add/remove progs. and there is nothing called NVidia so is that all I have to check for?

To be honest - I have no clue why that guy posted that. I can't imaging that those drivers should interfere with a firmware update.
