I've been using version 7.2.7.0 successfully for some time, mainly for burning downloaded .avi files. I recently upgraded to 7.5.1.1 and now I cannot get Nero Vision to work. As soon as I click on "Make DVD" it locks up. I've been in touch with Nero and get their standard reply of "do a clean reinstall using General CleanTool" I've done this 5 times now and still get the same result. Other modules such as Burning Rom and Showtime seem to be working OK. Anyone else had this problem? BTW General CleanTool does NOT remove all entries and that includes the registry.

try to break the process into 2 parts, convert the avi to dvd files and save to hard drive, then use burning rom after confirming the first part worked.
Sorry Soup, that wasn't what I was looking for, although it is useful for future reference. I don't have a problem converting files, I can use WinAvi for that. It's a matter of principle. I've paid for Nero so I want it to work. The earlier version worked so I can't understand why 7.5.1.1 doesn't. I just wondered if anyone else had had the same problem.

Thanks Cynthia.
Since I've cleaned my system up (thanks to much effort by Tetonbob and Gary) Nero Vison has worked, so it could have been a malware problem.

For whatever is worth ... I used to love NERO ... till this past Friday when I decided to uninstall my NERO 6.6.14 and install my Nero 7 Premium Edition ... what a MISTAKE ... first of alll I hate it when a program just unilaterally wants to take over every darn application on your computer ... kind of like Microsoft does.
Well, since I am novice in computers ... like a dummy I said "Yes" to all of the insatallation part of NREO ... once I found out that my movies now is playing back with Nero Showtime rather than my favorite player WinDVD 4.0 version. That really torqued my jaw ... so I tried unistalling NERO 7 and clobbered my darn computer ...
So, as far as I am consider NERO 7.0 S**ks!!!
The reason I had not installed it ... it is because all the problem that I have been reading about this program.
But, I have few Q's just in case I feel dumb enough or courages enough to re-install the NERO &.0 and take the free upgrade online ...
Q1: Which one is better DVDShrink or NERO Recode?
FYI, I tried the NERO Recode 2.0 and it did not compress my movie far enough to fit on DVD-5 ... I still had to use DVDS to shrink it another 1%!?!?!?
Q2: Which one is better for various features (e.g. ReAuthoring, ...) NERO 7 or Roxio 8?
Hmmm!
I'm not a techie so don't take my comments as gospel; they're just my opinions.
I tried Creator 8 and had so much trouble I returned it and got my money back. That was when I switched to Nero 7. I've not had any problems with Nero until recently and I now think those were due to malware rather than the program itself. Since I've cleaned my machine up Nero is running fine.
As far as your particular questions are concerned, you can deselect all the extensions that Nero wants to run so you can still run your favourite program. Nero WILL NOT copy "copy protected" DVDs. At least, Nero Burning Rom won't. I have no experience of "Recode", but if I'm copying a DVD, DVD Shrink would be my choice.
Don't know if that helps

Pilot.
Thanks for your reply .... your recommendations make sense to me ... I learned the hard way ... what you just shared with me ... that I should have "De-Selected" all the Association and evern untick the "Auto Play" option ... oh well!
Hi! I used to get everything I wanted with DVD Shrink 3.1 until one day a burn failed message started to appear at the end of the editing phase, I've tried removing the program from the computer and installing it back, downloading 3.2 version, Nero Burning Rom, DVD Ripper... no luck, what can I do?
