    Works sometime..most times not...:(

    Hi guys,

I have recently bought an LG external burner for my laptop and have it connected via firewire to my laptop.

I have installed nero express 6 that came with the burner and have made 3 coasters for every dvd burned (either data or movie backup).

Now i know this is not supposed to happen and was hoping to find some direction/advice on what to do.

Below is my log from my last failed burn.

I should also add that it goes to different complete rates each time (6%, 15%..etc) before it stops. I have to stop the program and shut off the burner in order to be able to get the coaster out.

    Thanks in advance.
    voda

    Hi,

I see in the log you have discs with a CMC mediacode.
Before getting mad at your burner, try to burn different discs.
CMC discs may be of low quality under some brands (Datawrite, Datasafe, Ridisc..). Their quality can vary a lot.

So try burning some reliable discs, like TDK, Sony, Maxell... and see if the problems persists.

    Just my 2 cents

Hi voda, I've looked over the log and have a few suggestions

You should install the latest Update to Nero v6.6
      Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-5163D>Version: A102 - HA 2 TA 0 - 6.3.1.28
The A102 firmware is several revisions old, you should try the latest A105 firmware here

As was pointed out by Francksoy, CMC is average to below average quality media.

This is a problem, you can't set Booktype for -R media (only +R or +RW).

This log completed successfully, try the things I suggested and hopefully you'll get good burns everytime instead of only sometimes.

The media code is the important thing when looking for compatability for your burner/players. Brand name media retailers who don't manufacture their own media switch suppliers like we change underwear. For example CMC has supplied TDK with media in the past
