Burning to DL stops at 50%

I'm trying to copy 'Crash' onto a DL disc. Twice now using DVD Decrypter the write rate goes to 0x when the disc hits exactly 50%. I've tried ripping the ISO using Shrink and then using DVD D to write the ISO and then I tried using blutach's pgcedit guide but now pgcedit uses imgtool instead of DVD D so i kind of improvised, but both times the write process freezes at 50%. This is basically my first time trying to copy a dvd. I'm using memorex DVD +R DL media and an LG GSA-2166 burner. Any ideas? All I want to do is make a straight 1:1 backup. please help.glong

I had a similar problem with my first DL burn. The reason why it stops at 50% is because it doesn't know that it has to switch layers. I gets the end of layer 1 and doesn't know what to do.

If you are doing a 1:1 copy, use DVD Decrypter to read the DVD to a ISO image using ISO read mode. Then, burn it back to a DL DVD using the created MDS file and selecting DVD Decrypters ISO write mode.

OK thanks for the tip. I'll try that. One other question, i have my OS installed on a FAT32 partition and I save my ISO files to a NTFS partition. Since NTFS can handle files over 4 GB can I just save the whole ISO file or do I still need to break it up since windows is still installed on an FAT32? Hope my question makes sense.

If you save the ISO on a partition or hard disk that is NTFS. It will stay as one ISO image and a very small MDS file.

If you save to a FAT32 hard disk. DVD Decrypter will split the ISO into 1GB chunks. You have to load the MDS file as normal when burning for it to burn correctly.

But I set my write speed to 2.4X, is DVD D still trying to write at 4X? I know when I pop in a blank DL disc and try to burn with nero it has a grayed out box and says write speed 4X and won't let me change it. But I thought DVD D allowed me to control it???

It's what I use (Pioneer 109 in a USB 2.0 enclosure). I do have a problem with one of my players reading the discs but that isn't the discs or burning at fault.

Just a quick update. I spoke with LG and they told me that their drives have problems with Memorex media. So, I'm going to order some Verbatim DL discs and give this another shot. I'll let you if it works.

The problem has been fixed. I ordered some Verbatim discs, but in the meantime I went and exchanged my burner for another one (same model) and tried burning with the Memorex one last time and it worked. So turns out I had a faulty burner. Wonder if LG will reimburse me for all the DL discs I lost?
