    Nec Fw

I have a NEC 3550A DVD-RW drive with the stock bios. I was just wondering if there is a better bios for my drive. I have not had any problems with it, i just wanted to know before i come across any problems with the drive. Thanks all.

I own 2 NEC drives (3520 and 3540). I get all of my firmware for my NEC drives here: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/

Modified firmware is great! Depending on the firmware you get, it will remove the RIP lock and make it region free and it also allows you to utilize the booktype function of your drive.

One problem with modified firmware is that it can be very tricky to get back to original firmware again. Nec 3520 is one of those.

        Cynthia,
I am not sure about the modded firmware issue, I took my nec 3520 from stock(3.04) to
2U1(your advise) to modded maddog/oem to latest 2U4 back to 2U3(dee's advise)
        to 2U2(micheldeboer's advise).
The modded firmware is often just the stock with small tweaks, as long as you use the right flasher, it's not an issue.

It gets rid of regional restrictions, but the real reason to use modded
firmware on NEC drives, and for me there's no argument, it's bitsetting.
            I won't have a drive/firmware in any of my computers that won't take a
            dvd+r and burn it as a dvd-rom.
