Hello, every time I try to burn @ 8X, either dvd + or - r, I always get jitter and the nero speed test fails. I have tried, memorex(junk), Verbatim, and TY's. I always get jitter. I have a Nec 3550A, and I have the latest firmware. Any sugestions?

Ummmm, slow down?? But seriously burning speed is a very big factor in quality of a back up. Another is how compatible the media is with the player. You may need to adjust your style to accomodate the disc/player relationship. My example would be that I burn mostly at 2x, 2.4x, 4x and I have not had any troubles in "my" player, the media I have been using I thought was Yuden, but I have since found out it is cloned. Still though, I can play all my back ups fine. Now when I use players other than at home i do run into some trouble with playback, but they are not consistant troubles so I just live with it and bring extra movies to compensate. I would start by checking on how compatible the media is for your burner and player, then adjust the burn speed and try to use the least amount of compression possible, remove extras and use reauthor if needed. You may also want to consult the FAQ section in the DvdShrink forum for the threads on "the golden rules of burning" and "what to do if playback skips, stutters, etc." -
I use that Verbatim's media and that burner. I don't burn to the edge. I set my DVD shrink target at 4300 MB and I get 97's @ 12X. Chewy says to ignore the PIE's and concentrate on the PIF's. Almost all your PIF's are over 4300MBGary D

Something else is wrong, if it's not a bad burner, I would suspect a bad power supply. However without a standard to compare it to, scan a brandnew factory dvd and post scan, a single layer if such exist anymore. Or do a transfer test in another drive.Comment

Hello, I re-ran the tests, I burned with a different burner (LiteOn SOHW-1693S) I did get one jitter point (8x_Verb), however nothing failed. Maybe something is wrong with my NEC 3550. Once again the TY kicked butt.Last edited by utengineer04; 18 Feb 2006, 11:36 PM.Comment

I only have 2 burners, are you talking about where it says something about burned with Sony. I don't know why it says that, I wondered the same thing. It is a LiteOn I burned with.Comment

All the scans at 8X on the NEC, the quality is zero. Atleast with the LiteOn, I had some quality.Last edited by utengineer04; 19 Feb 2006, 12:51 AM.Comment
