External DVD media tester?

Is there a good external DVD ROM for doing jitter tests that can be USB 2.0 and or firewire?
Or am I wasting my money??

I would like to hear the pro and cons on this issue.

why does it have to be external?
the benq's are about the only dvd burner that measures jitter.

I only have 2 bays for internal. The first holds NEC ND3550A and the second has LG gsa4163b
