Question about BenQ DW1655

I just got mine tonight. Is it normal for the writing speed to change almost constantly? My LG 4167B stays at whatever speedit is set at.

XP SP2
AMD 64 3800+
1GB Corsair XMS DDR
2x 250GB Seagate HDD
Each drive in computer on it's own controller with known good cables

you can post the log either with nero, dvdd or imgburn Burn that would help

Are you using the same burning program?

What I mean is Nero will report a "constant" burning speed, which is actually untrue.

ImgBurn reports the true writing speed, which actually fluctuates.

Do you mean a thing like that in the image I posted? i.e that burning process have so many up and down?

If yes, the answer is yes, because by default benq burners have WOPC enabled.

WOPC stands for "Walking Optimal Power Control" is a tool of benq burners that allow to do fine tunings on laser power during the burn. At intervals burning is slowered to check quality of burning. This feature is useful mostly with low quality media.

If you want to disable it you can use QSuite, a tool from benq, or also ImgBurn (latest versione is able to manage also other benq burners parameters, like OS [OverSpeed] and SB [SolidBurn]).

I'm sorry, I am using DVD Decrypter to burn the ISOs I make. Where would I find the log file or does it make one.

Press the letter "L" on your keyboard while DVD Decrypter is running. A log at the bottom will pop up. Copy and paste all if it here.

I already think it's what Geno said because this driver sure rips fast and the DVD I burned with it came out fine!

In the image I posted, the graph is the burning speed. Do you see in decrypter a similar up and down of writing speed?

Then again there is no problem in your burner. If buffer is always full, the responsible of that up and down is WOPC.

Try to disable it with imgburn and see if there are again these up and down. I must say, however, that also disabling it sometomes there are anyway some slowing in burnung speed, when laser is recalibrated.

If I'm not wrong, the log confirm that the burn is OK. That up and down of burning speed are due to WOPC. They are normal, don't worry

If you want it's possible to disable WOPC with imgburn. With high quality media it's safe disable it.

This drive f***in rocks!!!! Now that I've used BQFlasher toget it to the newest firmware everything works right, including error scanning and QSuite. Thanks for all your help guys!

You don't need BQFlasher to update firmware. It's sufficient to run the official flasher. What do you did exactly?

I beg to differ. The official flasher REFUSED to work at all. BQFlasher did work. Drive works 1000% better.

I downloaded the latest firmware for my DVD burner and the firmware absolutely refuses to load. I know I've got the right firmware for my drive, it just refuses to load. I'm trying to update to BCDB for proper PI scanning speed.

Chewy must have a satellite pointed on my burners... only this can explain how he know that I buy retail drives
