mat****a sw9571 wont burn

i have problems with a mat****a sw9571 writer. i have had this for 2 years and have burned about 200 dvds. when the problem started it was playing cds and dvds and i was able to write a dvd to my hard drive using dvd shrink but i could not get the file from my hard drive to dvd using "copy to dvd" or "ulead dvd moviefactory4". now it seems to only play and burn cds and play some dvds(will not play some dvds. will not burn dvd). since this problem i have bought a second dvd writer (samsung sh-w162z). what would be the best way to connect both to my computer and what is the most likely cause of mat****a problems. i am using windows xp service pack 2

Put both writers on your "Secondary IDE" channel.

Your Matshlta drive has died it sounds like. You can try to run a laser/lens cleaner through it to revive it. Maxwell makes one for about $10 US dollars sold at Target or Wal-Mart.
