which drive to use for ripping and burning?

I have two DVD RW drives that seem to work equally well to me. However I would like to know if either is better suited for ripping or burning.

1st drive Sony DW Q28a
2nd drive NEC ND 3550A

no brainer

nec is a newer model, good ripper and burner

sony is a rebadged liteon, makes a good scanner when crossflashed, not known for good burns

The best ripper is LG if you can get hand on it, I had seen lighton and nec fail on some old and dirty disc, my LG can get down to 1x and rip slow where disc have problem
