    Ripping Test Thread

I was scanning a problematic burn from a computer with possible power supply issues, and decided this disk would make a good test disk for comparing the ripping ability of different drives and software.

We can forget the software part as dvdshrink, dvddecrypter and dvdfabdecrypter all finished the first set of rips within seconds of each other.

Here's a scan of the disk
you can see why I chose it

now what I am looking for here, is the slower the rip the better,
maybe not, cause I know the LG reads the best

    Benq 1620 9 1/2 minutes
    nec 3520 5 minutes 5 seconds
    LG 4163 7 min 41 sec
    nec 3550, nec 3540 5 min

conclusion, for speed use the nec's, for accuracy use the benq or lg

Plex is also very fast, I use LG if I have bad dvd, plex or nec for fast rip and benq for scan

benq was a lot slower than I had been told but surprisingly good in the transfer test

Maybe this is a little off-topic, but I'd like to post a personal experience.

I read on CDF that Aopen 1648 Pro is the best ripper. I bought one and the only results I obtained was that it made my computer freeze randomly. I tryied the drive on other machines, but only in my computer it gave problems.

Moreover, it wasn't able to read some brand new DVDs!

Right now I use a liteon 16P9S installed on an external box (a cheap one). Due to usb2 limitations, it is able to rip only @14x max, but until now I hadn't problems with it.

My personal experience with Lg are: I have a few Yoga and meditation dvd that were burn when I was a nob and most of them were memorex, few of them were not able to read by nec, plex or even benq but Lg take it all the way. I watch and it even lower to 1x speed and keep move very slow where the bad area was I know where my LG in the equation of my burning now
