Pcgedit: How to pick best DL layer break?

How do you spot poorly inserted layer break?

Can you go wrong with any of the cells picked by Pcgedit? Should you always go for the frames with completely dark background for the layer break?

If the DL disc plays normally, does it mean the layer break placement is correct?

Certainly if the disk plays properly, the LB is placed correctly (as it will be if you use PgcEdit).

A bad LB is one which occurs during a scene and has a visible break. The best LB is during a fade to black or scene change. You can see these from the available list of cells using the preview.

Does PcgEdit only pick good cells for layer break and it's up to you which one you want to use?

What does a visible break look like?

If you see a cell in 100% black, should you pick that one for the layer break or pick the one immediatly before it if it's available?

Does it matter if the cell is not 100% black? Sometimes PcgEdit picks a cell with a normal scene in it and I wonder why.

A LB can only occur on a cell boundary. Also, there are rules with respect to size on each layer (search for posts I have made on this). PgcEdit will only give you a choice within the rules. It's up to you to pick the aesthetics. If a cell that is suggested fades to black at the end, then it is a good candidate. Any cell where a VobID changes is also a good candidate (the audio buffer runs out in this case).

A visible break looks like a 1 or 2 second stop in the flick. Sometimes, this is unavoidable (because that's all the cells that are available to you). But you can split cells with VobBlanker or DVD Remake Pro to make the LB exactly where you like (within data size per layer rules).

What's VobID in layman's term?

Basically, each VTS is divided up into 1-99 VOBs (different to the file VOBs), which are a collection of cells, each with their own Cell ID.

In PgcEdit's editor, you will see each cell has a VCID - Vob/Cell ID, usually starting from 1/1 and going on from there.
