Meritline order turned out to be a bust, their web page forgot to add shipping,
they called for conformation of 14$ charge, never could get back thru to them to cancell. Replied by email, cancelled!

My newegg one will arrive this afternoon, first reports are they are shipping
with latest retail firmware and will scan without crossflash. They are selling
    very fast, but restocking often.

I just recently got the BenQ DW1655 OEM from Newegg and it came with the BCAB firmware even though some reports were that the OEM was supposed to be GCAB firmware. It scans great.

I also recently got the Sony DRU-810 but was a little worried about trying to cross-flash to the BenQ 1640 firmware (to be able to scan), because I had never cross-flashed before and should I mess it up, the warranty would've been void. Glad I didn't since I now have the 1655 and it can scan, and they are both working fantastic and FAST!

Good news: One of the distributors has received 5700+ grey OEM and 4300+ black OEM drives today, all in the L.A. warehouse.
              that's a lot of burners

last monday there were 27,000 in 7 warehouses in US with one large distributor

I paired mine with my nec 3540
and my lg is paired with my nec 3550
am giving my benq 1620 to my son

the new benq is ripping/reading a little faster than I hoped but
                        more accurate than the nec's

My new sony and TYG02 batches aren't quite as good, when I get a chance I will burn with one of my old yudenT02's

This drive have problems with newer media TYG03; but it's probably a firmware issue: these media are recent

the first batches of TYG03 to hit europe were below par for TY, even burned
at 8x or 12x with any burner

probably same effect as I am seeing with my latest TYG02's, slightly different
packaging, increased production with slight reduction in quality.

from a few scans I have seen I might have to buy some 16x verbatims
