    Problem burning DVD (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

    Hi,

Recently I started having problems trying to burn DVDs. They error out and ruin the blank DVD media. Iam using Nero 6, and good quality media (DVD+R). The log is attached below. Can someone help?

    Recorder: <BENQ DVD DD DW1620> Version: B7S9 - HA 2 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16
Your firmware is several updates behind, current version is B7W9 and can be found here

Nero is also a little old, try 6.6.0.18 here

    Physical memory : 190MB (195568kB)
    Free physical memory: 52MB (54232kB)
    Memory in use : 72 %
You are very low on resources, 512 is the recommended minimum for the tasks you are taking on. I would recommend buying a stick or two of ram, it is very cheap these days, but until then here is a guide.

Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB)
You are burning too close to the edge of the disc, reduce your target size to 4300 in your transcoding program.

    7:11:09 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483
Recorder: BENQ DVD DD DW1620, Media type: DVD+R
There should be 2 more lines here including a MID code, this tells me that your burner isn't recognizing your media...firmware update could correct this problem.

    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
This error coincides with the last problem...see above.

    Burn process started at 8x (11,080 KB/s)
Reduce your burn speed to 4X until you get a successful burn, then you can increase it incrementally.

    File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=7.1.0.95 , size=24832 bytes, created 6/24/2004 1:42:00 PM
This is Roxio's driver, they are known to not play well with Nero and other burning apps...I would suggest removing it. Here is a free removal tool.

            Hi
Thanks for all your replies. I did update my firmware, and also downloaded the latest Nero patch. After this, I did burn a couple of DVDs, but on my third burn, I got the error again. Here is the log

I think this has more to do with the drive not recognizing the disc. Probably a cheap media issue.

well even with the updated firmware, cheap media or not...you think it should be able to read the bloody ID. dvd decrypter can with the same disc and drive i bet, probably nero info tool also.

                              @LT
I've seen logs that don't recognize the discs, and when a few key items have been changed the MID will pop up. But seeing that the firmware and Nero have been updated, I would think that the ID would be shown already. You may be right though.

We can only ask dhargun to use this so doubt can be removed.
