Im trying to understand how to read a nero history log, I have a example here of a successful burn and a failed burn, both the same movie and both the same media, can someone point out the clues for me thanks.

Checking Nero Logs

But generally speaking, I check the following things:

Is Nero up to date?

The newest Nero uses Ultrabuffer which helps prevent slowdowns while burning.

Is DMA enabled?

Without DMA, all files have to pass through the CPU which makes any steady speed unobtainable.

Is this a closed session disc or opened?

Sometimes people try to make open sessions discs while burning movies.

How much RAM is in use?

This is tough to judge in 6.6.1.4 because Nero takes available RAM and uses it for the ultrabuffer. In the successful log, Nero took 262144KB of Memory. Remember less applications running is better.

Is the drivers firmware up to date?

The drivers firmware decides which stragedy to burn each kind and manufacturer of discs. This is most important as makers change supply houses and countries and new disc speeds are introduced.

What speed is the burn being done at?

Slower is better. Some say 4X. Some say half discs rated speed.

What quality of disc?

Garbage quality controls like CMC MAG has equals inconsistency in burning. When 2 discs of the same brand can give unequal results, then it is probably a quality control issue in manufacturing. Also I use Videohelp and find out what other people use to get successful burns

What is the length of time (510minutes) is being used?

Burning to the edge of any disc is risky unless the disc is of the highest quality. (When the edge of the disc is spinning, it is transferring data at the highest rate at that time). I use Verbatims 8X/16X and still set my DVD shrink target to 4350MBs.

What actual time did it take to burn?

I know with my burner it takes about 13 minutes to burn a 4X disc @ 4350MB.

Did I scan this disc with Nero CD/DVD Speed when i finished burning?

Did I verify the data after burning (Option within Nero)?

Did I follow the golden rules of burning in blutach's signature?

I was looking for 1 @ HP this afternoon and I couldn't find any for that model. I know about rpc1.org but it is down. I know my LG 4163 and NEC from Dee and Liggy's site, but what about the others? BenQ, Liteon, Sony's, etc.?
