        Chewy,
Is it just the external LGs that can't run a scan? I noticed your first post in this thread. "my LG 4163B burner's firmware allows burning at 12x on this 8x dvd+r media." I'm in the process of doing your scan directions on my BenQ. Coffee is served!
These were done on a back up burned on a NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A using Sony media.

No donuts? None of the LG drive's hardware support PIE/PIF reporting.
Geno is using an external drive to test with, the speed limitation of usb2
          glitches some graphs.

Not much for eating breakfast. Coffee and go. I just got my order of TY02. I'll do this again tomorrow using the TY02. I have been using Sony for so long. I'm very interested to compare the different scans.

I have been burning with my LG via firewire only. Seems to be OK. The strange thing is that the firewire connection reads the burners name but the usb2 only reads it as a "mass storage device." I had mentioned this before. Not sure if this is an adapter thing.
            Here is my Benq:

glad to see it all working so well in that W98se computer, you'll
like the made in japan TY media, be looking for lower PIF's.
Try a scan at 8x with the benq(same disk) faster and should be real close.
              The other 2 media's to try are YudenT02's 8xdvd+r(sony/MIJ) and verbatim 16x dvd+r(MIT)
Any PIF total <100 is a trophy burn.

              For liteon's <50

                    soup,
your burn hit 13x at the 2 gig mark where there may have been a bad
spot in the media, tdk used to be better media

when you get a chance rerun just the transfer test on that disk capping speed at 4x
                    file/options/standard test/read speed

                          soup,
if that was the same disk, it might not be a coaster but it was a bad burn

not worth taking the extra time at 4x, that's what I like about a scanner that does 8x
