finalizing disc now taking forever...?? Help!

Hello all! Lately it seems something is wrong with my burner..? It is taking longer to finalize the disc, sometimes it gets "stuck" on 99%finalized, but just a few minutes ago it was stuck on 67% and then all of a sudden "durn complete" came up with the little jingle, but the disc will not play in either of my players (leading me to believe it never DID finalize it). I'm using Decrypter to burn, and a reasonably new burner (Memorex). I only burn on 4x, although it seems Decrypter likes to do about 6x even when I tell it 4x, LOL. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening? Clean the burner? Help! TIA, Eva

Ok, I can't figure out how to find the log from before, I didn't save it... I will try burning with the firmware upgraded and see what happens.

from this page we see your memorex is really a liteon 1673, and to make is further confusing, that was an early edition of the liteon 1693.

and all those firmware for those family of drives only allow 6x or faster for that media

dvdd might be happier if you only asked it to burn at doable speeds

according to author of dvdd you should be using liteon firmware

            edit

Thanks Chewy, now I'm even more confused..! I thought I was burning at "acceptable" speed, since I'm telling it to burn at 4x..? I will go to the link you provided and check for new firmware for my burner. But why would this start happening just lately, as it has not been an issue before??? I have burned many superb copies with this burner and Decrypter. Any answer is good as long as it is not "your burner is dying", LOL!

You are forced into burning at 6x on that 16x media, that's ok, believe me,
it's all by design. 8x would probably give you even better burns.
There's no real need to change firmware as the newest 1693 is only a few months newer. Bitsetting with imgburn might work?

                  edit:
keep an eye out on the burn time, media problems, fragmented hard drives, burners learning new media
are all things that slow down burns, try an 8x burn

the always burn at 4x has many newer exceptions, things change

Ok, will change the burnspeed. Another thought... can this issue have anything to do with the actual movie/way I decrypted it??? I only ask because I just now burned a copy of another movie that I had saved on my harddrive, and it burned fine, no issue with the finalizing... log as follows:

Aaarrggghhh! I have encountered the finalizing issue to the point of failing the discon the last 2 movies I burned, butit has been SLOW (the finalizing) on many other movies recently, although those burns have resulted in working discs, the finalizations have just taken a few minutes (usually stuck @ 99% for a while) but I would still call them successful burns. The last 2 movies have both been kids' movies, and doing only the movie (ie reauthoring in Shrink), one was decrypted only in Decrypter the other using PCGEdit (latest configuration).
I will also defrag my harddrive, see if that makes any difference. I haven't changed media as I have been happy w my usual Sony discs. Could be Sony changed on me though I suppose, LOL!
Thanks again, and if you or anyone else has any further thoughts on this, I look forward to hearing them!
