Only staples disc play? Playback just started freezing...

I hope this is the right place to post this...

I'm relatively new to DVD burning. I have several dvd burning issues.

I bought a laptop which included a dvd burner (HP Dv5000z) back in March. My friend showed me how to use Nero / DVD shrink to burn my discs and it worked fine.

So far I've tried phillips DVD-R, Maxell DVD-R, and Staples dvds.

Only the Staples discs have worked.

Now all of a sudden whenever I burn a dvd it freezes during playback. It will play on my laptop, but not in my dvd player. It seems to freeze at the 2nd-4th chapter. I've tried cleaning the discs really well before burning, and that seems to help, but if there are any flaws that are not removable (no matter how minor) it still freezes.

I'm getting upset because I've burned nearly 100 dvds and now all of a sudden they aren't burning well (and I've wasted tons of blank dvds). I even dropped the burn speed but that didn't help.

Even if i use DVDFab Decrypter first, they still freeze...

Any advice to a newbie??? Thanks!!!

Laptop burners don't seem to hold up very well to heavy prolonged use.

Yours doesn't even seem to have any firmware support from HP.

well that does make sense, but do you have any advice for me on getting the most out of what I have? And what do you think about only finding that one type of blank media to work?
