How can you get such inconsistant results?

Burning with Sony 16D1 media which according to digitalFAQ.com are 1st class media--How can I get such inconsistant results after running Nero CD-DVD Speed 3 times. The 1st try I just left the disc in the tray after burning and ran Nero. The 2nd try I took it out of tray and tried to "clean" the disc and the 3rd try I just left it in the tray. What is consistant is that I have a problem right around the 1.5 mark. What could this be attributed to?

So far I have not had any good burns with this media. Could I have gotten a bad batch and should I take them back to BB? Heck I've had better burns with my Compusa plain label brand (aml002, I believe)

Yep, some bad some good. Looks like mostly bad. I added my own to the list. Actually, only paid $.30 per.

The difference in the PIF and other results are from the difference in the speed that you used to scan with. Also I would never try to clean the disc before scanning, as this will result in minor scratchs, it is best to do as you did the first time, just scan the disc, unless of course you are scanning a previously burned and used disc.

Yes, I would say that the disc has a bad spot around the 1.5 mark, I have had this same problem with a couple of disc in a batch, but the rest would be fine. All you can do is test them and see. My problem was with the first two in the batch, the rest were fine, so if you try the next one and get the same results, do not give up, the 3rd or 4th one may be fine.

Copyless (I think) suggested burning at 8x with my burner (I have the Samsung, but a Benq is on the way . So that is what I do now. So what you suggest is burn em and test em and if I get a good burn keep it and if I don't throw it away? I only paid .30 for these anyway. Maybe once I get my Benq it will be a better burn. We'll see.....

soup, not these particular discs. But I used to burn at 2x or 4x and someone said with my particular burner it would be best to burn at 8x.

You could always try it & test it with these discs just to see. Just because the test does not turn out so good on your backup doesn't necessarily mean it won't play in your standalone. I have had some that looked lousy but still played fine & if they don't last long just pull out the original & do it again. What I am trying to say is if it plays, you might at least get some use out of it.

Like I posted earlier they're only .30 a piece so I guess a few experiments won't hurt me. I've got some TY's coming anyway.

Are those the Sony DVD+R 16x Accucore MIT disc? As I said above I would try a disc that is about three below the one you tried. Burn it at 8x and scan it at 8x, post back the results. I have a 50 pack of those disc if indeed they are the ones I asked about, but have never opened them, but if you tell me they are the same ones I will test a few of them. Or later today I will open them and check the MID myself and see.

copyless, yes they are Sony Accucore but they are DVD-R. I can't remember if they are MIT or not. I can check when I get home. I'll try your suggestion later on tonight. Thanks.

If they are -R, then I would have to say they are MIT, all the -R MIJ from Sony that I have bought have been TY's. I did see some MIT -R the other day when I was at Office Depot (first time I saw them) but I did not buy any, I did however buy the last three -R MIJ that they had, and I had to dig and search to find them.

copyless, They don't have any other distinguishable labeling. I threw away the outer wrapper. The MID just says Sony16D1. Wow. I didn't realize the labeling was this distinct. I guess the Sony's I have are the lesser quality. I did another burn and had errors at the 1.5 mark again. I burned with imgburn, left it in the tray and ran Nero CD-DVD Speed. This disk is about the 15th in the 50 disc pack. I'll skip down about 15 and try again but here's the imgburn text file and the nero file:

Once again they are about .30 a piece so coasters aren't a big deal for me.
