My hard drive won't show previous free space after burn and delete of movie folder !

After using DVD Shrink to burn a movie back-up, and then deleting the 4.5gb folder off my hard drive it loaded the burnable movie into, I can't seem to get back my hard drive free capacity / space that was there before the burn. My "C" drive is an 80gb Maxtor and on it was 9.5gb of free space left. When movie burn finished, I deleted the newly stored copy of the movie off my hard drive to recoup my free space. The folder deletes away with no problems, but I never regained the 4.5gb of space, it still shows as only 5.0gb free space left.
Why is that? I noticed this in past burns, but didn't pay it too much mind as I had lots a space available before. Am I doing something wrong here? Please help!!!

When you deleted the folder, did Windows give you a message like the folder was too large for recycle bin and to permanently delete? Also check your recycle bin.

      Welcome to the forum

When windows gets confused, it's hard to tell what's going on? I try to keep at least 20% free on any drive and even more on my system drive. There are several processes where windows allocates space, swap file, restore files, etc. Do a thorough house cleaning, disk clean up, off load all large data off
      your c partition, then defrag.

I found the answer to my problem lower down on this web page.

Posts the same basic problem / question I had.

I also have "Norton's System Works" installed on my computer and forgot that
it was in affect not allowing the burned movie folder to really be deleted. The protection level was set at 3.99gb. I had to manually remove almost all types of files to be protected by "Norton's" within the "Recycle" bin configure window and restart my computer. After the restart, I was now able to go back into the "Recycle" bin configure window and click on the "Empty Protected Recycle" for the "C'' drive and now actually delete said files.
My free space went back up to 9.37gb!
Thank you all for your quick responces and valid help suggestions, I really appreciate it!

I always turned that off in options when I first installed nortons. Since I quit using it so long ago, it slips my mind what a pain it was. Glad to see you found the culprit.
