I seen that in the paper as well and was tempted, but I already have numerous DVD-RWs and the NEC I just bought wasn't as great as I had hoped, so I might just hold off for BenQ specials>

I'm also curious as to what wasn't exceptional about the NEC, I've got a 3540 and think it's the cat's meow and from what I understand the 3550 is also an excellent drive. Are you using stock firmware or modified?

There was nothing really wrong with the NEC 3550a I got, but I did have some burning issues when trying to burn at 12X with Verbs and at 8X with Sony TYs. I had flashed the firmware to 1Y.6. I was just expecting a lot from it I guess.

It just didn't burn as well as my Benq 1650 & 1655, and did not rip as fast as my Sony DRU-810 (rebagded Benq 1640), so I may have become biased towards BenQs.
