    playback skipping problems

It seems as though every DVD I backup has slight/minor problems on playback.

Just about every movie has one minor skip/stall during playback.

The playback skipping does not occur when I play the files from my harddrive or newly burnt backup to Windows Media player.
The skipping occurs when playing on my Toshiba SD-KV550.
    I use Verbatim DVD-R 16x blanks.

I followed/follow all the "golden rules"

I wash all DVD originals before ripping and use a optical cleaner on my burners and DVD players.

Could this be that my Verbatims is not completely compatible with my Toshiba player? or is compatibility either :"works great" or a "not at all" scenario?

It does not seem to matter what I use to rip, decode and burn with. I mainly use Shrink using the deep/slow mode and burn with Clone at 4X. I also use DVDfab and Nero.

I want to use IMGburn but have problems playing back ISO files. Another problem of mine and the reason I bought Clone which works great.

Should I try DVD+R and booktyping?, might this help?

    Any guidance is appreciated.

    thanks,
    thehucker

sounds like your dvdburner and firmware may be the problem, you neglected to mention them

        NightTran thankd for replying,

Would burning at 16X be better with this media than 4x?

Would 4x Verbatim (if they got it) be better than 16x Verbatim?

You do not think +R -R makes a difference?

It seems Verbatim gets good reviews??

What do you burn with? +? or -? & brand?

I want to try some different discs but want to know what would be a definate improvement over what I use now.

        Thanks again

        thanks

Post a log when you burn again

How about posting one of your burn logs?

              Chewy,

              I use LiteOn:
              DVDRW SHW-160P6S
              &
              LiteOn
              Combo SOHC-5236V

Following the golden rules I updated both the drives firmware. This seemed to help my nearly 100% coaster burn record.

I try ripping from either drive to HDD and it seems to make no difference. Also, could it be a burner problem when the discs I burn from here work fine on my WMP playing from either drive?

What do you think of NightTrans suggestions?

              Thanks for your help,

              CH

As for the thread title...see here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=48765

As for the verbs, I've used around 700 of them...I think they are great media. I can burn at 12X with my setup and 16X Verbatims. Most users prefer +R discs for the booktype capabilities but you have to have a burner that supports such a function.

As chewy suggested supply us with your burner model number and firmware version and we'll see that you are up to date.

                EDIT:

Current firmware for the 160 is PSOA and can be found here.

has had some real issues with -R media, burn the verbatim at 12X or 8X

that burner loves verbatim 16x dvd+r

                    Soup,

I dont think I have any burn logs??? Does Clone save them automatically? Or possible an old nero log?
I will look into this and get a log to post.

I do not have any DVD to back up right now but will definately do what I can to save a log tommorrow when I burn again.

                    Thanks for the support!

A fresh Nero log would provide the most information.

Ok, it seems that with 16x media I should not be burning so slow!? I will try faster 8 or 12X
And I have been getting ready to buy new media and wanted to try +R this time.

Also this thread mentions problems at the start or end of discs, mine is neither but in the core of the disc.

                        Thanks

Sounds like a problem with the removal of the layer break perhaps...

                              Chewy,

Do you have any links to direct me to concerning the problems my burner has had? ( I will search also myself)

                              &

From what you know about the Liter on I have, would you definately be using +R of a slower rating than 16X?

Or, would you be looking for a new burner?

                              Thanks for the responses everyone!

                              Cheers,
