I think my NEC is shot - how long should it last?

My 1.5-2 year old NEC 3500A seems to be dead as of tonight. When I put any kind of disc in, it makes a faint clicking noise for probably 60 seconds, and never recognizes the media. I just tried ripit4me tonight for the first time, too, but probably just coincidence.

I've burned approx. 250-300 discs on this burner. Is that reasonable life?

might be dirty, that burner should last longer, but if you used it a bunch to rip or read a lot of disks and burned a lot of cd's also?

I probably ripped a fourth of those discs with it - not a lot. I'll find something to clean it. Might be my excuse to procure one of those benqs!
