    Hey NightTran,

If you are around ... quick ... I already have a 1655 ... if I just want one more back up should I go for 1650 or 1655?

Which is BETTER? Performance wise? I don't care for Lightscribe.

    Thanks!
    G!

          Hi NighTran,

Dude, I OWE YOU One ... thanks a bunch for this ALERT ... I just placed my order for the "Retail" one ... BTW, the 1650 is not Available ... because the button is "Grayed Out" ... so it made it a no brainer for me ... But I also saw your Recomeendation ... so now I will have a 1655 Retail and boxed ...

Q1: Should I open the darn box and test it out in my desktop ... I sued them internally ... and then remove it and store it away?

Q2: How the heck you know that there were only 2 - 1655 left?????

I am currently still using my 1640 (bought from NE back in Oct 2005) and with mored than 3000 DVD burns and 3500 scans and 1500 CD Burns on it. And I just bought the 1655 about 1 month ago ... and I don't remember if it was Chewy who recommended to use my 1640 for reading and ripping and use 1655 for Burning ... and that is what I have been doing.

Talk to you soon ... and THANKS AGAIN!
          G!

If you really have to have one and can't wait, meritline has them, but they cost more. http://meritline.com/benq-dw1655-lightscribe-16x-dvd-burner-oem.html I'd wait, newegg will get more. Does anyone have an opinion on the 1670?

Thanks. I was curious. I'm not ready for any more yet, but that option is always there. I have an NEC 3550A and a Pioneer 111D that are both good for me.

                          Hi folks,

@ bill7621, Meritline does not have ANY 1655 in stock. I called them yesterday morning and talked to customer service and they are "Back-Ordered" for 70 units ... however their website "shows" that they have it ... basically they are lying!

@ NightTran ... dude you now have me confussed ... I thought you were saying that 1655 is a darn good unit ... but your last post here it sounds like you are saying BenQ burners are basically not worth a darn since their f/w is alll screwy!?!?!? Am I reading you right or did I misunderstand you?

                          G!

My 1655 is a great drive, came stock with BCHB....no worries, I'm not planning on flashing to BCIB any time soon either.

                            I wouldn't mind giving a Pioneer 111D a shot too.
