if the tdk are made in japan? and the tweaks don't work then the drive is history, bad history.

you should have fair luck with the made in tawain tdk's

should have some of the verbatim's at the weekend

so look set to go, last question....

the dvd+r's are 16x, is it best to set a lower burn rate or leave things as is?

thanks for everybody who has helped!!

personally I prefer 8X, a few get good results with newer burners and 12 or 16x, that older burner might even be better at 4X

can i determine the rate at which my burner does the burning or will it just do it up to its maximum speed?

              and, (very) worse case scenario....

anybody recommend a current, very decent burner. Would need to be black, internal and very keenly priced

both the samsung and nec fit the bill, slightly concerned about a few of the reviews for the samsung!!

would it be worth installing a newer drive anyway, just to ensure things are up to date? or i guess it could be a waste of money as things may work a treat with the better media.

i tried another film tonight after the firmware update, seemed ok for around 40mins, then jumped and completely stopped!!

picked up some verbatim's today from another local store

                    picked up DVD+RW 4x

do i need to set my DVD writer to write/burn at this speed? or will it write/burn at this speed due to the disc only being 4x???

thanks to all and hopefully will be problem free!!

be sure and do a full format with the rw's before you do the first burn and also
burn at 4x or slower even if your firmware says it can go faster
