NEC 3550A still a good burner?

I need to pick a replacement drive for the 1655 that I sent back that was defective. I was thinking of the NEC 3550A. I want a good all-around burner for DVD & CDR, as well as being able to scan with it. (And bitsett)

Newegg offered a replacement of the Lite-On LH-18A1P - 185. I can't seem to find much info. on this one, tho. I don't know if I am able to bitsett with it, or is it a good DVD/CDR burner/scanner?

Anyone have any info. on it or other suggestions?

    Thanks much!

yeah, I've noticed that; would one of those be a good choice? & how can I determine if one of those would meet my criteria? Are there any good sites that tell you if they can bitsett etc.?

Would you personally pick a SATA burner over an IDE?

Dang - I just checked & that Lite On that you suggested is out of stock!

Question? if you use sata burners , you will lost the slot for the Sata HD? and If you use the IDE slot for the HD will it drag the whole system slower?

        I think 3550 still a decent burner

Guess you could install a SATA/PCI card. What does Chewy think of that idea?

I know how you feel! They need to make a mobo with 10 PCI & 5 SATA slots!

well guys, sata's the future, they are burying pata

just like with pci pata cards, you need the right chipset/bios for support of sata burners

my 2 main computers have 4 sata and 4 pata drive support, if you need more drives than that, it's time for another computer, remember with gigabit ethernet transfers don't slow down

if your southbridge is an intel chipset a sata burner will probably work in your computer, that's good since those sob's are the ones dropping pata support

                      Night,
Unless I'm looking at the wrong thing, I don't see a Benq DVD Burner at Newegg. Only a CDR & a Combo Drive?

I think I may wait untill the 3550A is back in stock - supposed to be in a couple of days!
