DVD-VR from recorder not readable on drive?

I have the cheap insignia DVD Recorder/VHS combo that can burn -RW discs in the DVD-VR format and give some additional editing features. The problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to rip it to the harddrive once I have completed and finalized the disk. My DVD reader is the BenQ DW1650 and I usually rip with DeCrypter. The drive cannot read the disk. Any ideas?

    Hello,
Is this a disc that was recorded with a stand alone recorder?

I have never used one my self but I have friends that have some of those recorders record in NON complieant dvd files, there fore cant be copied the same way you would a comercial version of the movie.

If you have 2 drives on your computer you may want to try and copy it on the fly.

I have never had problems recording, ripping, and burning copies with other disks, only when I am using DVD-RW formatted in -VR.

Yes. I transferred a couple of dozen VHS tapes to DVD+RW disks using the Insignia DVD Recorder/VHS Combo. I then took that disk and ripped it to the computer using ripit4me and then burned them to DVD+R disks booktyped to DVD-ROM. Haven't had any problems at all. The recorder cannot booktype directly to DVD-ROM and some of my players do not read + R disks, so I had to go the long route. Eventually, I purchased DVD-R disks which the recorder can burn directly and be played on these other players, so I no longer bother putting them on -ROM disks.
