    Lifespan of a DVD Writer

Not wanting to sound too crazy/cheap, what with the low prices that DVD writers are available at, but I am still intrigued as to how many DVDs will my writer be able to burn....

I use the built in burner on my laptop (HP), burning at 4X MAX

    Burner's ID : HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N

    Any thoughts???

I dont use a laptop, but I have two DVD burners on my desktop PC, one is a dual layer, all format burner. I have used the other burner for backup purposes and the DL burner on occaisional backups. The single layer (SL) burner is aprox 3 yrs old. Oh...there are about 250 DVD's burned from that burner and it is still working fine.

    Its a Sony!

    Here..I will fix it!

I've never heard of anyone getting a lot of burns out of a slimline laptop dvd burner, I would baby it and buy an external or just use a desktop computer for video work
