Hello Chewy! How do I remove the driver: pfc.sys??

    Good evening Chewy

I was doing some "housecleaning" on my computer today and I discovered I had pfc.sys as a lower driver in my system.

My system used to be clean and now I want it back that way.

I google for its removal and I cannot find any answers except to leave it alone as reg entries have to be edited and/or deleted.

    Here is devfilter log:

    Code:
    ----------------------------------------------------
    Filter Driver Load Order http://www.bustrace.com
    ----------------------------------------------------

     Upper Device Filter: redbook
           Device Object: _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A
      Lower Class Filter: Pfc
     Lower Device Filter: imapi

             Driver Name: redbook.sys
           File Location: c:\windows\system32\drivers
File Description: Redbook Audio Filter Driver
            File Version: 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) [5.1.2600.2180]

         Product Version: 5.1.2600.2180 [5.1.2600.2180]
            Company Name: Microsoft Corporation

     [B] Driver Name: pfc.sys

         Product Version: 2, 5, 0, 205 [2.5.0.205]

             Driver Name: imapi.sys
           File Location: c:\windows\system32\drivers
        File Description: IMAPI Kernel Driver
            File Version: 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) [5.1.2600.2180]

         Product Version: 5.1.2600.2180 [5.1.2600.2180]
            Company Name: Microsoft Corporation
I am lost on how to remove it safely (besides a hard core reinstall). The restore feature is no good as the last restore point still shows it in it.

    Any ideas or links??

Just remove it from the registry key - I posted that a few days ago.

      EDIT: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

BTW: I had to go through about 15 entries before I knew I had the right one.

The regedit entry even had DVD43 listed in it.

        Thanks again guys!

Following your advice, I noticed that the Registry Key (right side window LowerFilters) has both PxHelp20 (Sonic) and Pfc listed. Should I delete just the Pfc entry? Or both?
            Thanks.

                Chewy,
That's certainly a lot easier. Should I still delete both Pfc and/or PxHelp20?
By the way, how did Pfc driver get onto my system? I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when I installed the drive.

                Thanks
