This is my Nero info, I wrote recently about this same issue, I have Nero 6.6.0.18, and I was told to run the clean up tool to completely remove Nero and reinstall the older version (6.6.0.18). Which I did, and I had the option to change the write speed, and now it is either Max or 16x. I am not able to choose 4x, which is what I was told to use, less errors.(thanks blutach) : )
    Please Help

    Thank you all.

I'm not sure to understand correctly your question. From the info you posted, you inserted in the drive a DVD-ROM, i.e. a disc that can't be burned.

The writing speed in nero and in any burning software is shown only for writable media, and not when there is a pressed or an already burned disc in the drive.

      sorry

Hi, I thought that you would need that info for some reason. Sorry

My issue is that when I try to burn a movie using Nero, it only burns at 16x. It does give me the option to change it to anything else.

After clicking Backup on DVD Shrink, I chose the burn tab, and the only speed options are Maximum and 16x.

      Thank you

If you are burning a double layer DVD, use ImgBurn instead.

Nero still makes mistakes in picking where the layer break should go.

If your files are in files, then use build mode. Let ImgBurn decide where to put the LB.

The link to ImgBurn are in my signature below...

        It is free!!!!

You will not be able to set the burn speed until you have a blank disc in the drive that you are burning with.

When Nero READS your blank disk correctly,

16x[assuming that is what you have] will show up 1st.
click next to it and lower burn speeds will show.
              12x
              8x
              4x
