    Comparison, LG, Lite-On, Samsung.

I know what you are going to say, soup what about the external Plextor, well the Plextor has accepted the fact that Nero does not like Plextor. Plextor likes Plextor but Nero just doesn't.

@ 24% of burn, LG is @10.3X, without synchronizing cache or finalizing disc, burn time 5.08 minutes.

@ 24% of burn, Lite-On is @9.7X, without synchronizing cache or finalizing disc, burn time 5.40 minutes.

@24% of burn, Samsung is @9.7X, without synchronizing cache or finalizing disc, burn time 5.31 minutes.

    All burned @Max with ImgBurn 2.3.0.0 & scanned @8X.

    LG,

    Lite-On,

    Samsung,

soup will be back in 12X (maybe).

Well it has the lowest PIE's & the lowest PIF's but if you go by Quality Score then it isn't. The Samsung also has about 3 spikes up at the 3 mark, where the Lite-On doesn't. LG is HL-DT-ST GSA-H10N (JL12).

Put it this way, if I could only keep one, the Samsung burn would be my choice.

the liteon burn was a close second, the three higher spikes on the samsung burn might develope problems after years of age

is the lg doing that to most burns or was that just a bad blank?

What Lite-on is being used in your comparison?

I can say that either of the two SATA Lite-on drives (SH-16A7S or LH-20A1S) are going to be hard to beat.

I have both and they are both screamers. Best drives I've ever owned.

I'll go with LiteOn supporting a DL DVD and 20X burn speed and LightScribe support.

I have some reservations about Samsung, market response is that they are bit unreliable and unpredictable. LG produced some good quality CD burners but their DVD burners never attained the same fame. Apart from LiteOn, I may go for SONY with the LightScribe support.

I have only done a few burns with the LG because it's job is to rip, but it has not been impressive.

                        Lite-On LH-20A1S (9L02).

I have the GSA LG 4163b and it is the best ripper for hard to read disks. It even handles my sons' cracked CD-ROMs well.

                          BUT

It sucks at handling ARccOS type DVDs with the inserted "dummy sectors". It encounters one instance and it does not recover its reading speed. And now with some discs having 20+ areaas, I find that (even) recycling the tray that many times must be hard on the drive.

How is the LG H10N at recovering its speed after hitting dummy sectors??
                          Do you recycle the tray??

Which drive do you use to burn DLs??
                          Which is the best??
                          At what speed??

I am looking for a replacement for my LG and I want a better burning DL drive but information is hard to find when it comes to DL burning.

Gary D this is a recent log that should answer your question.

I have only done two DL burns recently & they were both done with the Samsung. I might have one coming up next week, if I do I will use the Lite-On & let you know. I will probably always burn DL @2.4X but you never know.

The LG was sitting at about 249 before it hit the end & then whammo.

LG @25% of burn, 10.4X, reached 12X @43% of burn, burn time only = 5.34 minutes.

                              Lite-On @25% of burn, 7.9X, reached 12X @85% of burn, burn time only = 6.50 minutes.

Samsung @25% of burn, 9.8X, reached 12X @51% of burn, burn time only = 5.51 minutes.

All burned with ImgBurn 2.3.0.0 @12X, scanned @8X.

                              LG: HL-DT-ST GSA-H10N (JL12),

                              Lite-On: LH-20A1S (9L02),

                              Samsung: TSSTcorp SH-162L (TS07),

soup will be back (maybe) in 8X.
